NSW Government Reveals Data Centre Shortlist
1 July 2010
The NSW Government has shortlisted five potential bidders in the state's data centre consolidation program. The state intends to consolidate 130 data centres into two sites over a 10 year period with the departments of Health and Education acting as anchor tenants.
The State's Commerce Minister Paul Lynch announced today that five companies and consortia have been shortlisted and will be invited to tender for the project. They include Global Switch Property, Gresham Rabo Management, Leighton Contractors, Macquarie Capital Group and the Plenary Group Unit Trust.
Global Switch submitted a standalone proposal; the others chose to form consortia. Macquarie Capital teamed up with data centre giant Digital Realty. Gresham's bid includes Telstra, Technical Real Estate, Hurley Palmer Flatt and AGL.
Leighton Contractors were bidding in partnership with Springfield Land Corporation, a company best known for its Polaris data centre project in Queensland, while the Plenary Group Unit Trust has teamed with Watpac.
The EOI, released last year on 27 October with a 1 December deadline, had attracted 17 applicants. They include Canberra Data Centres, CSC, Equinix, Fujitsu, Oracle, Sun, the Australian Centre for Advanced Computing and Communication, Datacom Systems, Enterprise Data, Macquarie Telecom, Tier 5 and Verb IT.
The government will lease the data centres for 10 years, with the option of extending it by two five-year blocks.SAP Extends Offer to Acquire Sybase, Inc.
